Underwriting Specialist

Job Summary: 

This position is responsible for providing analytics excellence for our small to mid-size Group Benefits clients including:

  •  Assessment, negotiation, report writing and presentation preparation related to group renewals;
  • Peer review analysis of regular reporting;
  • Assessment, negotiation and report/presentation preparation for marketing and peer review of quote comparisons;
  • Participate with consultants in renewal and marketing meetings and/or presentations as required;
  • Analysis of carrier change financial/rate implications to client’s budget;
  • Analysis of carrier financial reports & peer review of estimated financials;
  • Price and analyze costings including assessment and analysis of alternative funding arrangements;
  •  Analysis of financial benchmarking and preparation of reports;
  • Analyze and peer review employee survey questionnaire and presentation;
  • Perform commission reconciliations and analysis;
  • Assist on specific projects, initiatives and research;
  • Provide support to Senior Underwriting Specialists as required.

 New Business specific components:

  • Any of the above in demonstrating services to win a prospect (eg. experience, renewal or financial review, cost comparisons, benchmarking etc.)
  • Participate in request for proposals (RFP) documents if underwriting analysis and expertise if necessary

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years experience in the Group Benefits industry an asset;
  • University Degree/College Diploma (or working equivalent);
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint including excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, and CRM.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills;
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in both official languages;
  • Strong prioritization skills and flexibility to work in a fast paced environment;
  • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy;
  • Able to work independently and self-motivated.
