Marketing and Design Specialist

Reporting to the Director, Marketing and Communications, the Marketing & Design Specialist will be responsible for the planning, execution, promotion, and measurement (ROI) of marketing projects or events undertaken across the broader CIGL. In addition, this role will advise on sub-brand development and microsites, and lead strategic campaigns, external events, and high-profile internal events—applying their marketing and design skills to enhance engagement, create an impression, and fashion a positive preference and response by selected audiences.

This role will develop and drive coordinated marketing communications plans and assist in creating or coordinating the content to support the objectives. Utilizing strong interpersonal and collaboration skills, this role will work closely with internal teams (marketing and communications, distribution, executives, industry leaders, SMEs) and external resources (media, clients, vendors, industry partners) on a regular basis.

This position may represent Cowan Insurance Group to external stakeholders as well as at various community events.

This role requires travel and the incumbent may choose to have their office workstation at either our Cambridge or Brantford office locations.


Manage marketing, engagement, and/or brand preference projects across Cowan Insurance Group in support of business and organizational objectives. Accountabilities include:

  • Building and executing marketing strategy, preparing and managing marketing plans, developing sales campaigns in support of marketing plans and building positive and consistent brand awareness
  • Project management of cross company activities – on time, on budget, and on message
  • Designing and concept development for events and marketing project materials and promotion
  • Recognizing opportunities for synergies across the companies and engaging the appropriate stakeholders in discussions
  • Development of systematic processes that can be shared and applied across companies
  • Working with internal SMEs / stakeholders, and external vendors / suppliers
  • Creating and/or coordinating and disseminating any supporting communication elements before, during, and after the project
  • Creating project success metrics and tracking (ROI)

Project by project basis – the Marketing & Design Specialist may be assigned budgets to manage specific initiatives. Usual budget for a given activity will be between $1,500-$100,000. Budget allocation will be supervised by Director, Marketing & Communications.


  • University or College education in Marketing & Design, Communications, Liberal Arts, or Event Management preferred, or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience
  • Advanced level of MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Advanced level of full Adobe Creative Suite
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast paced environment and effectively and efficiently handle multiple, simultaneous and complex tasks and projects.
  • Self-starter with strong business curiosity and an intrinsic desire to continually learn and grow
  • High energy, positive, enthusiastic attitude
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written.  The individual must be able to write clear and concise communication.  Experience in writing press releases is an asset.
  • Ability to maintain high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain high level of confidentiality is a must.
  • This role needs to be able to negotiate with internal and external stakeholders in a positive manner.  They must be enthusiastic to rally people to be involved in events, and provide creative solutions to recognition and sponsorship activities.
  • Ability to travel to branches, offsite locations, and attend events evenings and weekends if required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
