Senior Consultant, National Benefits Consulting

Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, National Benefits Consulting this position is responsible for providing superior relationship management for our mid-market and large group clients. As an experienced Senior Consultant the incumbent will provide their expertise in the planning and implementation of strategic initiatives for Group Life and Health benefit plans.The successful candidate will:

  • Provide strategic guidance and support to clients;
  • Develop and provide client specific strategies to ensure ongoing competitive plan design and concepts;
  • Provide ongoing education, support and guidance to established clients;
  • Develop and maintain strong client and carrier relationships;
  • Meet with clients to present experience, financial reporting, marketing and renewal presentations as well as for the maintenance of strong long lasting client relationships;
  • Direct activities of the internal resources according to client needs;
  • Responsible for overall management of carrier marketing’s including  presenting and recommending best carrier option to client;
  • Recommend and design plan options that best balances client’s need for a cost effective benefit plan with appropriate funding of the plan;
  • Prepare recommendations, analysis and costing prior to and during union negotiations.  Review contract agreements and guide the preparation of amendments following collective agreement negotiations;
  • Identify cross-selling opportunities within block of clients;
  • Maintain currency of knowledge in Group Benefits through independent research, professional reading and development;
  • Contribute to peer group through Consultant meetings, and other.

Qualifications:            

  • 10 + years in the Group Life & Health industry; 5 years of which in a direct consulting role
  • University Degree/College Diploma;
  • Individual Life Licence (LLQP);
  • GBA, CEBS designation preferred or working towards;
  • Proven track record in managing a multifaceted block of business, providing strategic advice in financial plan management and plan design;
  • Proven experience managing a complex block of business;
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and CRM;
  • Regular local travel required and periodic air travel. 
  • Proficient in written/spoken French an asset but not required.
